CartoDB is declared open source, but the license is ambiguous:

I am responsible for the maps on demo.transformap.co. I have included
the icons with ©Greenmap. Only the code is released under PD, not the
icons. Is that okay for you?

Improving it? Is it Open Source? If you are talking about
https://cartodb.com/, this seems not to be the case.

It depends on Greenmap's needs. At the moment we are using a Semantic
Mediawiki (which is an independent instance and not linked data yet),
and our second platform is using OpenStreetMap directly.

I haven't dug into CartoDB yet, but it seems to be closed source and
using its own databases (maybe even hosted on a proprietary service).

I personally would appreciate it if Greenmap would be using
OpenStreetMap directly (as we do), but this limits mapping to objects
suitable for OSM.

> Should Greenmap better wait for our plattform?

There is no “full grown” ecosystem around TransforMap yet, and it will
take some time (think of years) until this is the case.

It doesn't have the functionality yet Greenmap would need - but we would
be very happy if we join our resources for developing a common platform!

> Should we do it too?

I would prefer to use 100% Open Source solutions and to facilitate the
“Linked Open Data” approach (as we already do with OSM).

I strongly urge to use OSM directly for all geodata. But if cartoDB is
Open Source, I would give it a try for using it for other entries like
events.

This is Thomas (@toka in discourse) who is responsible for the Semantic
Mediawiki, and me (who is doing all the OpenStreetMap stuff).
